In Ms. Anesi's 1st grade classroom, the students were bubbling with excitement as they embarked on their bird unit. The culminating activity came when an incubator arrived with several farm eggs. Every day, the children carefully checked the temperature and humidity, marking their calendar with hopeful anticipation. When the chick finally cracked its way into the world the students were super excited. Tiny, fluffy, and wobbly, the baby chick became the star of the school, teaching the students firsthand about life cycles and the wonder of nature.
Next door in Ms. Cervone's 2nd grade classroom, the learning adventure was a bit squirmier. As part of their science unit, the class was raising mealworms in a small plastic tub. The kids watched in fascination as the wiggling larvae transformed slowly into pupae, and hoping soon for beetles. To cap off the lesson, Keaton Nelson brought in his pet bearded dragon, Demi, for a special visit. Demi turned the 2nd grade mealworms into a delicious treat. Students giggled as her tongue darted out like lightning and Demi enjoyed the extra pets from Ms. Cervone's class.
