Elementary Quarantine - 10/3/2021

October 2nd, 2021

Dear Ouray 1st Grade Families,

I am writing to inform  you that we have had a First Grade cohort member test positive for  COVID-19. The first grade does meet the definition of close contact with a COVID positive individual with the last exposure being September 30th. Therefore, these students will need to follow quarantine guidelines that are outlined below through October 10th, 2021. A school official will be contacting you regarding technology/material pick-up and your classroom teacher will be reaching out to 1st grade families with instructions for remote learning.

Your student will be eligible to return to school on Monday, October 11th, 2021. If your student starts showing symptoms while quarantining, please contact our offices to notify us and contact public health or our school nurse for next steps. It is not recommended to do a COVID test until at least five days after the close contact exposure if symptomatic.

Administration and teachers will be working hard to communicate the most up to date information that we have regarding remote learning and support. On page 2, I have attached safety precautions for those individuals who are quarantining.

Our website offers many great COVID-19 Guidances and resources. Please visit https://www.ourayschool.org/apps/pages/covid-19 if you have any questions regarding:

QUARANTINED GROUP

Our quarantine group should follow CDPHE quarantine guidelines:

Stay home, or in your same location, except to get medical care.

  • If you have a medical appointment, call ahead and let them know you are under quarantine (either by order or self-imposed) for COVID-19, so the office can take steps to protect other people. Otherwise:
    • Restrict activities outside your home.
    • Do not go to work, school, or public areas.
    • Avoid using public transportation, rideshares, or taxis.

Practice actions that protect others.

  • Clean your hands often.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. When using hand sanitizer, cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Soap and water is preferred if hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes.
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue away. If a tissue is not available, use your inner elbow or sleeve.
    • Immediately clean your hands (see above).
  • Avoid sharing personal household items.
    • Don’t share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, or bedding with other people or pets in your home.
    • After you use these items, they should be washed thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Clean surfaces every day.
    • Clean “high touch” surfaces like counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, and bedside tables.
    • Clean any surfaces that may have blood, stool, or body fluids on them.
    • Use a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. Follow the label directions for correct and safe use of the cleaning product.

As always, you should regularly monitor your child for symptoms of COVID-19. If your child develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19:

  • Follow these isolation instructions
  • Have your child tested no sooner than 5 days after the last exposure.
  • Keep your child home from school and avoid other activities around other people
  • Notify the school
  • Seek medical care and testing for COVID-19, calling your doctor before you show up
