The recent Community Assembly at Ouray Elementary School highlighted authentic learning in action, as students across grade levels proudly shared their work with families, staff, and peers. Kindergarten through fourth grade students showcased learning rooted in curiosity and the scientific method, demonstrating how questioning, exploring, and observing drive deeper understanding. Third grade students presented an authentic ELA project, sharing how they applied reading, writing, and collaboration skills to meaningful, real-world tasks. The event brought together parents, middle school students, high school students, and teachers, creating a powerful opportunity to celebrate student voice and cross-grade connections. Parents and teachers expressed strong appreciation for the assembly, noting the high level of student engagement and the meaningful learning on display.
In addition to the Community Assembly, fourth grade students—along with a group of middle school students—will take their projects to the Ouray County 4-H Building to participate in a countywide science fair, extending their authentic learning beyond the school and into the broader community.
