Dear Ouray Community,
I am proud to state that Ouray is a safe community to live in, and Ouray School is a safe and supportive place for students to go to school. It often saddens me that we have to talk about active steps to keep the school safe in our current national environment; that said, it is important and honorable work to ensure the welfare of children.
First, I would like to reiterate "If you see something, say something." Our community safety depends on sharing information. There are also avenues for students and parents to use Safe2Tell as a means to report issues or concerns. Thank you for playing an active roll in maintaining safety.
Second, Ouray School will be conducting its biennial Parent School Climate Survey during our upcoming Presentations of Learning on October 26. Please be prepared to provide the school with your perspective on safety, teaching, and learning. This survey will be electronic with a QR code access, and we will also send the link out through email. Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the Board of Education for its support of capital projects to improve safety. The school is just completing the addition of automatic fire door releases, safety film on specific windows, and improved lighting inside and outside of the gym building.
Thank you for the privilege of leading this school in such a supportive community.

Ouray School Lockdown Drill - October 18th
Ouray School will be collaborating with the Ouray Police and Sherriff Departments in a school lockdown drill on Wednesday, October 18th. The drill will be pre-announced and coached, and there will be no active shooter scenarios. Read more to learn about the school's Standard Response Protocol and school safety.
