Post Secondary Supports

Ouray School students are supported from elementary forward in thinking about careers, college, and other options for post-secondary education. Students have a variety of lessons and support to meet them where they are educationally and to help them in making the best decision for themselves and their families.

Testing Information

While many colleges and universities are transitioning to test-optional applications, many scholarships or grants may require test score information. Currently, Colorado students take the SAT suite of tests as part of our state testing requirements. Each Junior will take the SAT in the spring. At this time students have the option to add four colleges for free score reporting. After this test, all students who need to send test scores to colleges or universities will need to order them through College Board.

Students have the option to take additional SAT exams or the ACT exam at National Test Centers.
Letters of Recommendation

Students will discuss Letters of Recommendation during Junior Seminar and are encouraged to consider who they would like to ask for letters at this time. Letters should be requested at the end of their Junior year or Fall of their Senior year to have available for college and scholarship applications.
Common App

Common App is a singular application that many colleges and universities use to accept student applications. Students are encouraged to start completing the Common App in late summer before their Senior year. The Common App takes a large amount of time to complete, including essay questions.

During this process, students will identify their School Counselor and several recommenders that will receive an email with a link to add recommendations for students. The School Counselor will use this program to send transcripts and the school profile digitally.

Scholarships

Scholarships are one way for students to help support their post-secondary plans. Scholarships are available for college and vo/tech programs. We are lucky in our rural area that many local organizations offer scholarships for graduating students.

Scholarship information is updated yearly and shared with students via a shared google sheet.
